UniRV approves a project to value the productive chain for phytotherapeutic drug with FINEP
The University of Rio Verde, through the Pro-Rectory of Research and Innovation, approved, along the Projects and Studies Financier (FINEP), the project “Valuing the phytotherapeutic drug production chain through good growing and management practices in family agriculture communities”, registered in the 01/2022 Public Call – Productive Chain Program for Bioeconomy of the Ministry for Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).
The project establishes the valuing of the productive chain of phytotherapeutic drug through testing medicinal plant extracts from Cerrado, which allow for the recognition of their benefits and future application in new products, through social inclusion activities in the productive chain of the researched plants. This incentivizes environmental education and technical qualification to produce medicinal plants, benefiting production communities in family agriculture, generating labor and profits for farmers, becoming a reference to preserving Cerrado.
The actions are being done in conjunction with the Rio Verde Popular Movement (MOPORV), created in the beginning of the 90s, with the objective to preserve and spread the practices done through natural medicine and maintaining local culture. The approved project will get the sum of R$ 2 million and will have the cooperation of the Pro-Rector of Research and Innovation, Dr. Carlos César Evangelista Menezes; the Master’s in Plant Production coordinator, Dr. June Faria Scherrer Menezes, and also the following professors: Dr. Márcio Rosa and Dr. Mariana Nascimento Siqueira (Agronomy); Dr. Francine Lorencetti da Silva (Dentistry); Dr. Hidelberto Matos Silva, M.S. Kênia Alves Barcelos, M.S. Rafaella de Carvalho Caetano (Medicine) and M.S. Nilda Maria Alves. Also participating in the project are the members of the Pro-Rectory: Andrea Sayuri Silveira Dias Terada; Felipe Monteiro da Silva and Uilcimar Martins Arantes.
This project will provide an improvement to the quality of life of the population, directly impacting around 40 families, apart from promoting consciousness, propagating culture, generating labor and wealth. There will also be capacitation actions for the people involved, being active and participative. Another highlight is the perspective of creating new phytotherapeutic products for the community family income.
