Forum discusses the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for ABRUEM’s Higher Education Institutions
The lecture called “The Social Commitment of Public Universities”, presented by the professor of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), and CGODS, Dr. Jaluza Maria Lima Silva Borsatto, highlighted the beginning of the 69th National Forum of Abruem Rectors. The event, hosted by the University of Rio Verde, gathers representatives of several higher education institutions, with the goal of sharing experiences and strengthening teaching, research and extension in each one of them.
Highlighting the importance of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), the lecture showed that universities play a key role in promoting sustainable goals and in forming conscious and engaged professionals. The Agenda is a global initiative adopted by the United Nations (UN) in 2015, which establishes 17 Sustainable Development Goals. These goals approach areas such as eradicating poverty, no more hunger, health and wellness, quality education, among others.
“When I was invited to discuss this theme, I wanted to bring a presentation that encompasses the social commitment, sustainable development and the actions we carry out at UFU that are in line with SDG. This is a very important opportunity to create a collaborative network, for we have the participation of representatives of every part of the country”, comments professor Dr. Jaluza Maria Lima Silva Borsatto.
Emphasizing that mapping research projects can be great allies to fulfilling goals and increasing scientific contribution, the lecture mediated by the Rector of the University of Rio Verde, professor Alberto Barella, brought an important debate on the partnership between institutions to achieve good results. “The 69th Abruem Forum provides a valuable space to exchange knowledge and experiences between rectors, allowing each institution to share the good practices they are developing. Through this dialog and cooperation, we hope to strengthen Higher Education even more”, states UniRV’s Rector.
The schedule for the morning also had the presentation of the Extension Technical Board, presided by UNIFIMES’s Rector, professor Ms. Juliene Rezende Cunha.
