Student Day at UniRV: education with affection
Today is Student Day! And did you know that August 11 celebrates, in our calendar, education as one of the main rights guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution?
In Brazil, basic education begins at 4 years old, with Childhood Education, and it continues up until the last year of High School, when, in general, most students leave school and go to the university. This is a very special moment because it marks a rite of passage in students’ lives. Among books, notebooks, readings, classes and activities, young people acquire responsibilities that will become valuable for their adult and professional lives.
When they leave High School and enter UniRV, the academic sees a Campus that, apart from being beautiful, has a planned and appropriate structure to provide the best and most effective experiences from the professional environment predicated in teaching, research, extension, apart from, of course, actions promoting quality of life at the Campus.
Because it is a public Institution, the University of Rio Verde is concerned in guaranteeing democratic access to higher education and bringing more people through its gates. That is why there are several benefits given to academics, among which there are university scholarships and several discounts in graduation and post-graduation courses offered by the Institution.
The forms of discount are, for most students at the institution, the main incentive and that enable them to enter higher education. This is the case of academics Wellington Cardoso Bento and Daniel Victor Cardoso Rezende, who are, respectively, father and son. They already worked together at a company and decided to begin, also together, a graduation course in Administration. In the 2nd period of the course, they draw common objectives and plans, that include creating and managing their own business after they graduate. That is why, both try to motivate themselves during classes, presentations, events and everything else thrown at them as university students. Because they are in the same family, Wellington and Daniel both get a 25% discount each in their tuition.
And proving that age is not a prerequisite to begin a new course and a new profession, the 4th period Medicine student, André Furtado Duarte, began studying medicine at 41 years of age, at UnIRV. He had already graduated in Agronomy in 2002, also with the University of Rio Verde and passed to study medicine at the Goianésia Campus 20 years later. Also, in 2022, André also passed to study medicine at the Rio Verde Campus, where he currently studies. As a form of incentive for having reinitiated his studies in this stage of his life, André got a 20% discount as an incentive to adults, granted by the University to people over 40 that begin a graduation or post-graduation at the Institution.
A dedicated student, André is seen as an example by his fellow classmates, being incentivized by his professors to venture into scientific research. Thus, he entered the Institutional Scientific Initiation Program, as a volunteer. Participating in PIVIC, according to him, is an important difference in the selection process for the Residency Program he intends to apply for in the near future, also at UniRV.
Beyond a quality and inclusive formation, the University of Rio Verde also invest in democratizing sport, leisure and quality of life in the Campus. The well-being of the academic community has also been a primordial issue at UniRV over the last few years. The institution is a part of the Healthy Campus program, of the International University Sports Federation (FISU), which selects institutions that are a beacon in promoting and incentivizing the practice of physical activities and healthy choices in the University environment. With experience in organizing and hosting national and international competitions, the University, will soon give the academic community an Arena with 8 sand courts and a living area for people to play sports when not in class or also on weekends.
The sporting activities offered by the institution are a part Pedro Teles’s routine since he started studying Psychology. Representing UniRV in volleyball competitions, Pedro has already participated in two editions of the Goiás University Games (JUGs), in 2021 and 2022, both of which UniRV was crowned the champion. He has also competed in Beach Jugs, playing mixed 4x4 volleyball, and getting a 3rd place. Now anxious for the beginning of the Beach Games, that will take place in the Rio Verde campus, starting in September, Pedro is already practicing to do well in the competition and put another trophy on his shelf. As an incentive for him to participate in the sport and UniRV competitions, UniRV offers the academic a discount in his Psychology tuition.
And if at UniRV the students can study, research, practice sports and have fun, then why do we not mention the loving environment that has spread across the University? Academics Laura Costa Borges and Gustavo Soares de Andrade embody a beautiful love story that has been going on for the last three years. When they met, she was in the 4th period of Dentistry and he still lived in the United States. Separated by the long distance, he made the decision to come back to Brazil and also continue his studies. To reinitiate his university life, Gustavo chose to study Psychology and, today, he is very happy with the choice he made, both in his personal life, as in his private life. The academic is already in his 3rd period and is already making plans to marry Laura, who, in December of this year, will become a dentist.
These are just some of the stories of people who have been through adversity, who had family support and who found love. These stories represent several other stories lived and told every day between hallways, classrooms and living spaces at the University of Rio Verde. UniRV is a healthy environment not only because it provides action to promote well-being to the academic community; it is healthy, above all else, because once the academic becomes a part of the Institution, the Institution also becomes a part of their story, through support, incentive and partnership.
