With the theme of “University and Society”, the 2023 edition of the V Universia International Rectors’ Summit, held in Valencia, Spain, gathered 700 university leaders, who represent 14 million students across the world. The event lasted for three days, with debates around three main axes: continued learning; promoting entrepreneurship and innovation and networking between universities. The Summit had the presence of the Spanish president, Pedro Sánchez.
The V Summit was promoted with the goal of uniting, instigating and fomenting universities’ actions and their potential in impacting society. And in this scenario, made up of characters who move higher education in the world, the Rector of the University of Rio Verde, professor Alberto Barella Netto, looking to broaden information exchange for the development of strategies and programs that meet educational need, participated of the program held from May 8 to 10.
Universia is a network that connects Spanish and Portuguese speaking universities spread around the world and it has the support of Santander Bank, which invests in actions that contribute to higher education for over 25 years, enabling the development of a more sustainable and inclusive society. The Universia International Rectors’ Summit has already been held in Seville, Spain, in 2005; Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2010; in Rio de Janeiro, in 2014, and in Salamanca, Spain, in 2018.
The V Universia International Rectors’ Summit had as its main focus universities’ roles as the moving force for a more sustainable socioeconomic development. This premise meets the mission of the University of Rio Verde, that has always promoted socioeconomical development in a responsible fashion, with the work of academics alongside the communities of the cities it is inserted in: Rio Verde; Caiapônia; Aparecida and Goiânia extension; Goianésia; Formosa and Luziânia.

For the Rector, participating of this world immersion was important for the institution and transformative for the representatives, for the role public universities play in developing in fomenting science is significant: “Participating of this world Summit is, without a doubt, enriching both for the institutions as for its representatives. Noticing that teaching, research and extension projects and actions, done by UniRV, have generated a positive impact in society, it shows we are on the right path. Apart from knowledge exchange, we have had the opportunity of promoting exchange with several personalities connected to higher education for the strengthening of the institution and higher education in our country”, concludes Alberto Barella Netto.
