UniRV carries out Influenza vaccination: caring for our staff members
As a reflex of the care for the well-being of the people who are a part of the institution, as well as the concern in giving a practical and quick environment for immunization, the University of Rio Verde has, this Wednesday, April 12, a vaccination campaign against Influenza (flu). The measure follows the Ministry of Health (MS) National Vaccination Campaign and should probably vaccinate over 800 staff members, among them, professors and technical-administrative workers.
Flu is an acute infection of the respiratory system, caused by the Influenza virus, that has a great potential for transmission. According to the federal government, there are four types of flu viruses: A, B, C and D. The first two have a greater tendency to cause yearly epidemics, whereas C usually causes lighter cases and D is not known to infect or cause diseases in humans. Vaccination allows for minimizing viral load and preventing the arise of any complication, reducing symptoms in priority groups, apart from decreasing the excess workload in the health services.
The exclusive vaccination for staff members happens at the convention center, from 8am to 11am and from 2pm to 5pm. “We are anticipating winter and, for this reason, we start vaccinating against the Influenza virus. The campaign takes place throughout Brazil and UniRV, trying to keep its staff comfort, so they don’t have to go to a health unit, is promoting the prevention here in the university itself,” comments the Faculty of Medicine professor and coordinator of the action, Andria Castro Quiuli.
The vaccination, apart from being one of the most important designed for the staff members, still contributes to the practice of Nursing academics. Around 24 students participated of the immunization during both periods. One of them, Rafael Nunes Dutra, from the seventh period, evaluates the moment of applying the shot as a care for all: “We feel like a super hero, because we are saving people’s lives with the vaccination,” he claims.
The Faculty of Pedagogy professor, Dr. José Reinaldo de Araújo Quinteiro was one of the first to get the immunization and thanks the care UniRV has with its staff: “The University is putting human beings as the center of its strategies and actions and the vaccination means that the institution cares for its staff quality of life,” he added.
With the idea of preventing and avoiding complications stemming from the flu, the Rector, professor Alberto Barella Netto, reinforces the importance that the staff members take the shot. “We have had over 70 confirmed Influenza cases in Goiás and the vaccination here shows the concern with the health of all our staff members”, concluded the Rector.
