Lecture highlight the importance of professionals in multidisciplinary teams

Third period students from the Faculty of Physiotherapy of the University of Rio Verde – UniRV participated, on the night of Wednesday, 22^nd, of the lecture “The role of the Psychologist in equine therapy” presented by Andréia Gimenes. The moment, designed to point out the importance of the work of future professionals in a multidisciplinary team, enabled students to have a different understanding of this area of knowledge, apart from promoting information exchange.

Trying to insert the academic in different areas of work, since the beginning of the course, the Physiotherapy course offers the opt-in subject of equine therapy, a therapeutic and educational method that uses the horse inside a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses health, education and horsemanship, which strongly impacts in patient development.

In equine therapy, us, physiotherapists, don’t work alone. We have a team with a psychologist, a physical educator, a pedagogue, a jockey, a vet, etc. We work alongside a multidisciplinary team. And as I work in an Equine Therapy Center, I wanted to bring the experience of the professionals to the classroom”, highlights professor Me. Maíra Paz Rodrigues.

Starting from the 8^th period on, during the mandatory internship, students do activities in the Primeiro Sorriso Equine Therapy Center. The opportunity, apart from combining theoretical knowledge to practical knowledge, helps with real benefits to patients, and helps in patients’ self-esteem, self-confidence, posture, speech, social development, improving their capacity of communicating.

Highlighting the students’ closeness to the marketplace, the Rector Alberto Barella states that forming professionals who are aware of the needs, demands and updates of each career in fundamental for a good outcome in the chosen area. “The insertion of academics from the University of Rio Verde in different working scenarios is a win for everyone and makes a difference in the formation of professionals who are apt to develop the necessary competences”, he commented.
