UniRV releases campaign “Carnival Without Harassment”
No means no! This is what the University of Rio Verde – UniRV wants to reenforce with the release of the campaign “Carnival Without Harassment”, promoting student awareness regarding the respect of individual choices regarding one’s body. With an appealing and laidback visual language, the brochures show the Institutions intent of effectively targeting the academics with the message.
Around 2 thousand flyers were made and distributed in the Rio Verde Campus during the day and at night, with the messages: “After no, everything else is harassment!” and “Fool around during Carnival, just don’t fool around with your health,” emphasizing care and incentivizing condom use to avoid the transmission of any Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs). “Carnival is a moment for fun and relaxation, that is why our role as a university is to raise awareness, mainly regarding women. When we talk about harassment, women are targeted way more than men. We believe that “no” is final and must be respected. Aside from that, the campaign encompasses the importance of preventing against STDs”, highlighted the Pro-Rector of Student Affairs, professor Dr. Elton Brás.
The party kit was delivered to academics in UniRV’s every single block, containing condoms and guidance on the testing for HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis, which are done for free at the Center for Testing and Counseling (CTA). For the dentistry student Ketryane Barbosa de Sousa, the Institution’s initiative of raising awareness, in a broad way, is very important so that personal choices be respected and that information reaches the highest number of people possible. “I believe that all kinds of prevention are valid to try to avoid worse consequences. If a person is willing to engage with someone, let it be in a safe way, that they take care of themselves and that if they don’t want to be involved with someone, that they know they can say no. That is why it is so important that the University incentivizes this type of dialog, for there are people who still believe that they don’t have this option, and that they have to agree on everything,” the class representative commented.
Carnival is one of the most awaited times of the year, in which fun and meeting people stir the interest of many partygoers who want to enjoy the holiday healthily and safely. “The campaign comes from the understanding of our responsibilities as an education institution and the importance of our social role, therefore we always try to promote actions that go far beyond just good teaching, but that contribute to the quality of life and well-being of our students,” said the Rector, professor Alberto Barella Netto.
