UniRV teams act fast and do maintenance on turmoil caused by rain

Looking to guarantee safety during the administrative and pedagogical activities in the campus, throughout this Thursday, 16^th, the University of Rio Verde is doing maintenance work that started after the rain with the assessment of the affected areas and establishing emergency points.

In the main access avenue, the strong winds fell three trees, two of them being small and one being big. In blocks I, II, III and VII the wind also damaged roofs, glass doors, hallway and classroom ceilings, but thanks to the taskforce created by the University of Rio Verde, most of the problems have already been dealt with. According to the head of the Maintenance and Construction Department, Marco Antônio Alves Ferreira, around 23 staff members are doing the work, and expectation is that by tomorrow, 17^th, everything will have been finished.

“Our team started yesterday to guarantee the continuity of campus activities. We’ve done the roof cleaning, cut the trees to free the streets and have done the complete assessment of the damage. It’s hard to predict or avoid natural phenomena, but we are working, looking for resources and investing in technology to continuously diminish the impacts of situations such as this,” he said.

According to meteorologist professor Dr. Gilmar Oliveira, Rio Verde registered on the afternoon of this Wednesday, 32,4º, the highest temperature of the yearm which contributed to the arrival of a cold front. “This combination of factors causes air mass movement, which ends up in localized gushes of wind. Here at the University we registered winds of up to 93 kilometers per hour, which is considered a storm,” he commented.

“Our biggest priority is guaranteeing the safety and well-being of our staff and students. Without a doubt, yesterday’s rain impressed us all. We acted quickly to assess the situation as soon as it stopped, and we arranged a task force involving the departments of Maintenance and Construction, Transport, Engineering and Gardening, which guaranteed that our activities could follow as scheduled”, emphasized the Rector of the University of Rio Verde, professor Alberto Barella.
