Professors of the Master’s in Plant Production welcome Embrapa researchers
With the goal of structuring the project approved by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), that will be developed in conjunction with the University of Rio Verde, the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation – Embrapa (Agrobiology and Soils – RJ, and Pork and Poultry – SC), the Federal University of Santa Maria – RS and the REAGER Company – MG, the professors of the Master’s Program in Plant Production welcome, from August 15 to 17, the researchers Dr. Caio de Teves Inácio and Dr. David Vila Boas de Campos.
Visitors are getting to know the members of the project, the infrastructure of the University, as well as the region’s potential, with visits scheduled to a pig farm and agroindustry waste composting company. While developing the project, UniRV’s team will be responsible for the agronomic experiments in green houses and on the field, with struvite, a mineral produced by Embrapa with the residue from pig farms.
The project will be developed in conjunction and will evaluate the potential struvite has as a slow liberation fertilizer for the sustainable management of phosphorus in Brazilian agriculture and is part of a thematic research line, development, evaluation and validating alternative nutrient sources for agriculture and fertilizer production processes from alternative sources, with a focus in economic and environmental sustainability.
The mineral has been studied as a slow release fertilizer, as a main source for Phosphorus (P), but also Nitrogen (N) and Magnesium (Mg), with a typical composition of 5% N, 12% P (28% of P2O5) and 10% Mg. It is obtained from the recovery of P and N from urban effluents (domestic sewage) or agroindustries (residual water from pig farming). Its commercial production is decentralized and is already underway in several developed countries.
