UniRV Gym turns seven and programs the “7x50 Challenge”

Inaugurated on April 1, 2016, the School Gym of the University of Rio Verde – UniRV became the main space for academics and staff members to practice sports, that use the place, without any cost, to work out and leave sedentarism behind. One of the biggest gyms in the State of Goiás, with an area of over 1,800 square meters, has a water park, with a heated semi-Olympic pool and ten spaces for people to use.

The environment still houses the practical activities of the health courses and serves as the scenario for important university extension projects, such as hydro gymnastics for elders. Every year the Gym carries out around 200 thousand appointments, ranging from working out; muay thai; swimming; table tennis and anthropometric evaluations. “UniRV’s Gym is the biggest model university gym in Brazil and in these seven years has become an important space for incentivizing sports practice, that contribute significantly to the physical and mental well-being of staff members and academics,” comments the coordinator, professor Me. Bruno Cleyton da Silva Barro.

The School Gym still works as an important ally in the preparation of the athletes that represent the University of Rio Verde in state and national competitions, such as the Brazilian University Games (JUBs). Apart from contributing to the physical preparation through the practical classes of the University, the place still prioritizes the care with mental health, strengthening the emotional balance of each student.

The Veterinary Medicine student, João Victor, an avid user of the gym, highlights that the environment promotes professional as well as personal growth, cooperating with the development and acquisition of new skills. “UniRV’s school gym has been a part of my life for a while now. As a student, knowing that the University I go to, has such a structure is, without a doubt, a reason for being proud”, says the academic, excitedly.

To celebrate the seven years of important contributions for the regular practice of physical activities and physical and mental well-being of the whole university community, the Gym will launch the “7x50 Challenge”, scheduled for right after the institutional recess. The duel includes two training protocols, the first of which, a 7-minute high-intensity workout, that alludes to the 7 years that the gym has been open, followed by a 50-minute exercise circuit, in celebration to the 50^th anniversary of the University of Rio Verde.

“This is a year of celebrations for the entire UniRV Family that has much to celebrate. The gym has a fundamental role in improving the quality of life and professional development of our academics. Apart from facilitating the teaching and learning, the site offers another environment for practicing physical activities. There have been 7 years making a difference and promoting well-being”, comments UniRV’s Rector, professor Alberto Barella, congratulating for the anniversary.
